Planned Giving

Did you know you can give to the shelter through your Last Will and Testament? You can also give by designating the shelter as a beneficiary on an annuity or life insurance policy.

You can designate in your Last Will and Testament a specific amount or percentage of your estate be given to The Herkimer County Humane Society; give only the remainder, or residue of your estate – that which remains after bequests to loved ones have been made.

You can have contributions in memory of you or your loved one’s name made to The Herkimer County Humane Society. (Special envelopes can be obtained for this purpose);

Do you have a policy that has outlived its intended purpose? You can transfer ownership of any such policy to The Herkimer County Humane Society. We would then surrender the policy for its cash value. Should you choose to donate money to The Herkimer County Humane Society either in your name or a loved one’s, you can designate how you want that money spent at the shelter. You can designate that the money be used for: General running of the shelter (utility bills, food, etc); Capital improvements to the shelter (renovations, updates, etc.)

The Herkimer County Humane Society strongly encourages you to consult with your legal and financial advisors when considering a planned gift.
